"The Rivals, a play by Richard Brinsley Sheridan, is a
satirical comedy of manners in five acts. It was first performed at
Covent Garden, London, on January 17, 1775. The play contains the famous
character, Mrs. Malaprop, from whose name the word malapropism (that
is, the humorous or absurd misuse of a word, especially by confusion
with one of similar sound) is derived.
The
Hourglass Readers is dedicated to performing readings of classical
works in abridged versions, allowing actors and audiences to explore
works not often performed. Catherine
Behrens will direct a cast that includes Frank Behrens, John Bordenet,
Barry Cohen, Peter Eisenstadter, Jenny Holan, Sherman Morrison, Jonathan
Ray, Scott Rodenhauser, Emma Seidler, Katrina Spenceman, and Merrilyn
Taylor. Live music will be provided by Jenny Holan and Ben Wise."
